FLEA & TICK ALTERNATIVES

This summer we had a lot of phone calls regarding FRONTLINE, ADVANTAGE, and TOP SPOT, all topical flea/tick products. Dr. Roman is cautioning against their use due to the harsh pesticides they contain. They remain active on your pet’s skin for 30 -40 days. If you handle your pet within 5 days of their application, it will be transferred to you and your children, remaining active for the same period. It may be impossible for families with small children to avoid contact with their pet for 5 days.If your pet rolls around on your furniture, bedding or clothing after the treatment, it will also be transferred to you and your family. We are instead recommending PROGRAM and other herbal products as well as combing pets over for ticks. We are using a product from GreenHope Farm called Flea Free. It is a Bach essence that holistic doctors are using for fleas and ticks. This product is also available at our office. We are also using a natural spray called 100% Natural Flea and Tick Spray. It works great in conjunction with the Flea Free. Buck Mountain parasite dust is a good product to prevent fleas and ticks. It also helps get them off your pet.
