Our deepest sympathies...

We grieve with the rest of our country regarding the terrible events of September 11, 2001. We wish to extend our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the victims of this act. We hope our country can heal during this time.

Oldies but Goodies...

We have been recommending geriatric bloodwork as a general screen for age related issues,. Cats over the age of 10 and dogs over the age of 8 should be screened yearly for organ health, thyroid function, and have a urinalysis done. When caught early, many age related health issues can be managed with changes in diet and supplementation. Our goal is to keep your older friend aging gracefully.

In Memory of...

In our new building we will have a memory wall where owners that have lost a friend may wish to have a permanent memorial placed. All proceeds from this memorial will go toward new equipment for the holistic health care center, in order to keep costs down for owners of chronically ill patients. If you are interested, contact the office.

Heartworm Prevention

We have changed our recommendations for heartworm prevention. We are now recommending giving heartworm preventative only during the "season", May through the end of November. This does require that you return for a test every year, but our reason for doing this is that we are trying to put the smallest amount of chemicals in the body. Prevention may be given every 40 days, as long as you will remember ! Also, if you have small children in the house coupled with a dog that goes to a lot of kennels, parks, grooming facilities or play groups, you may want to stay on year round prevention just to insure against zooinotic worms such as round worms that can be passed to children.

Homeopathic First Aid kits available...

We have homeopathic first aid kits available at our office. They are conveniently packaged and priced at 39.00. These have remedies for strains and bruises, natural antiseptics, vomiting and diarrhea, tick bites, and allergic reactions. They come with a pamphlet that lists the remedies and their indications, as well as dosing instructions. This is a must have for every pet owner! We also have larger 35 remedy kits available, and "birthing" kits for breeders.

We want your story...

for our holistic notebook. We are compiling a number of cases for publication and for our web site. Send a note with your pet's holistic health story.

Expanding our Horizons

As a client here at MASH you may not be fully aware of all the services that we offer. We offer the full range of standard care such as surgery, dental cleanings, X-rays, and we have a traveling ultrasound that can come to our facility. Our laboratory is ANTECH that offers not only standard lab work, but all of the vaccinal antibody titers as well as Bionutritional Analysis and supplementation. Finally, we have western and Chinese herbs, Homeopathy, and acupuncture. We have chiropractors available, reiki and massage practitioners. Soon we will have cranial sacral and massage therapy available. We also now can refer patients to another hospital that has an aquatherapy facility for dogs.

It's in the mail

We have found that an increasing number of clients are ordering refills on remedies and nutritional supplements through the mail. This is a service that we are happy to offer our clients, but has also become very time consuming for our office staff. There are some things you can do to make it easier for us, as we are now shipping sometimes 20 packages a week in addition to our regular office work! Please have a list of all items by name ( ie. don't order the "glucosamine stuff" as we have 15 different products that contain that ingredient!) Please order by size and quantity. Understand that we may need to order a product for you, so please do not wait until you are out and it is an emergency. Allow 5-7 business days for your order to be processed, filled, and shipped. There is a minimum $10.00 postage and handling charge, so ordering several items at once is best. Have a credit card ready to pay for the shipment. Taking these steps should insure you get your order in a timely fashion!

Cancer Update

It may seem unbelievable, but close to 75 percent of the holistic referrals we get are cancer patients, both pre and post surgery. We are grateful that area allopathic veterinarians are entrusting their patients to us for alternative therapy support. Other patients are coming from word of mouth and internet referrals.

The options we can offer for Cancer patients are high end nutrition and diet changes, herbal cancer formulas, acupuncture for analgesia and pain management, homeopathy, a new treatment using nitrogen called 714X, reiki, and family counseling and support during this difficult time. We treat each cancer patient as part of a family unit, and we understand the stress that the family is under.

We have had some wonderful success! Shadow is a 12 year old lab with a liver tumor. He was diagnosed almost 2 years ago, and his mom sends us regular photos of him living a happy , productive life. His treatment...special diet, herbal liver support, special cancer homeopathics, and a whole lot of love and devotion by his family.

REFERRAL FORMS FOR YOUR REGULAR VETERINARIAN...

Part of our goal here at MASH is to work with and educate our colleagues. We understand that many of you have a veterinarian that you like and trust, but they simply may not have alternative modalities available in their practice. At your request, we will send your veterinarian a written report of your treatment protocol so that he/she is kept well informed of your treatment and progress. We are happy to speak with them at ay time. It is our hope that they will be encouraged to add alternative therapies into their own practice!

A Spoonful of Sugar helps the Medicine go down...

Well not really sugar, but have you gotten really creative? Many of the calls that we get are how to get pets to take the supplements and powders. Only mix supplements in regular dinner when you are sure the pet will eat them.We don't want to discourage your pet from eating well. As treats to mix meds in, things that have a strong smell usually work best. Sardines, Dark tuna in oil, and liver are very popular. Some people have success with peanut butter, cheese balls, yogurt and cream cheese. Giving your dog a treat first that does not contain the medicine will often lower their guard enough to get them to gobble the next morsel. Some clients have had success making a liver or sardine "frappe" that contains the days supplements and syringing it in. The homeopathics can NOT be given in food, so your best bet is to just splash the dose on your pet's gums or lips. Your homeopathic remedies are absorbed through mucous membranes, so a quick splash and you're done. Do not give food to your animal 20 minutes before or after giving your remedy.
