Stonewalk  JAPAN 2005 Nagasaki to Hiroshima

Please join local Hopkinton Residents and Family to Help them participate in Stonewalk Japan. Margo Roman has participated in all four previous Stonewalk Events. Margo’s daughter, Dalia Auerhahn Hopkinton High Class ’06, has participated in three events and Joyce Lerner Dalia’s grandmother would have liked to help pull the stone too to commemorate her only brother Charles Baker Age 19 who was killed on the US Submarine Shark during WWII in an attack of Japanese planes. The USS  Shark  was called to the surface to rescue American sailors whose ship had been torpedoed by the Japanese. When they surfaced they lost their cover and too became a fatality and victims of war.

A description of STONEWALK will make you see how we need to remember the victims and the true cost of war. A loss to all.

STONEWALK JAPAN, the fifth global walk honoring civilians killed in war, will begin in Nagasaki July 2nd, and finish August 5th in Hiroshima where the Memorial Stone will be placed permanently in the Hiroshima Peace Park.

The Peace Abbey and September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows are the two organizations heading up this journey. The Peace Abbey, a multi-faith retreat center, founded on the principles of pacifism, offers innovative models for society that empower individuals on the path to nonviolence, peacemaking and cruelty-free living.   September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows  organization founded by family members of those killed on September 11th have united to turn their grief into action. The group, now of more than 150 members, has made contact with other civilian victims of terrorism and war, throughout the world. Their mission is to promote dialogue on alternatives to war, while educating the public on issues of peace and the root causes of war and terrorism, and work to create a safer and more peaceful world for everyone.

Members of STONEWALK team will be joined by Japanese people, in pulling the Memorial Stone 270 miles, remembering, on this 60th anniversary, the thousands of people killed by the atomic bombs in 1945. The Hibakusha, survivors of the bombings, will help to prepare for the event, participate in walking with the stone, and join in the opening and closing ceremonies.

Funds are needed to bring the specially created caisson to and from The Peace Abbey in Sherborn, Massachusetts, USA, to purchase and transport the stone, to provide water and food for volunteers, and finally to help with the transportation of the team. We need your help to express to the world the need for peace by honoring women, children, and men, the elderly and disabled whose lives were lost and who suffered as a result of the devastating effects of atomic bombing and radiation.
