A Hawaiian Trip That Gleaned More than a Vacation

We all need to visit our 50th State of Hawaii. It is truly a place of natural beauty and most likely to resemble paradise, if there is any place called Paradise. The Hawaiian are Islands are also Islands of healing.

I was fortunate enough to take a a winter vacation with my family who are 3 kids, husband and nephew. We visited Kauai and Maui. Kauai is the Garden Island and the lush tropical flora and breath taking view of the Napali Coast overwhelms the senses.
Then I was fortunate to spend some time with Dr. Ihor Basko who has the veterinary clinic in Kapaa called All Creatures Great and Small. He is one of the most caring and knowledgeable veterinarians in the world with an amazing background in nutrition and botanicals. We have taken recipes for my blog from his new book Fresh Food and Ancient Wisdom Preparing healthy Balanced Meals for your Dog last year.
Each time I have visited Kauai I make sure I can spend some time learning from Dr.Basko. This time I was able to record two radio shows done in Hanalei. His program called People and Pets in Paradise on KKCR has been on the air as a question and answer talk show for many years. The station covers the Hawaiian Islands and can be picked up on the mainland.

We discussed the over use of drugs and antibiotic particularly in both humans and animals and the about evidence based peer reviewed articles that validated our anecdotal cases. We also answered questions on the live call in about specific pet issues. One topic was poisonings during the XMAS season due the amount of Chocolate, Xylitol, Poinsiettas as well as other dangers. I hope to be able to connect to his show to have my readers a chance to learn more from this inspiring veterinarian.

The second week we were on Maui which is also an awesome island to visit. Our favorite place is Hana and it’s location on the Northeast less traveled side of Maui which keeps it quaint and private. It is the location of the grave of Pilot Charles Lindberg who said he wanted to be buried in the most beautiful place on earth and he was one who had traveled to a lot of places. Unfortunately while Boogie Boarding on Hamoa Beach I got hit by a 8 ft wave and due to a small shoal was thrown under the water 6 ft deeper then the 2 feet I was standing in. So close to breaking my neck, my black and blue torn up shoulder gave me some time to reflect on the meaning of life and nurse my injuries.

Using all holistic modalities I immediately took 1M Arnica and Trameel as a oral and topical. I immediately iced the area and in 24 hours had a soft tissue massage. I was able to get an acupuncturist to come to the hotel and work with both needles and acutonics which reduced the pain. All day I would ice and rotate with heat and cold always ending with cold. Applying lavender and Panaway by Young Living.

When we left to Wailea I was able to meet a Dr. Sierra Levy ND and Acupuncturist who worked with resonance therapy for 4 days and reduced the swelling and pain. She added both homeopathics 1 M Arnica and Hypericum. Some of her techniques were new to me and were quite enlightening.

A accident like this can shatter your life or empower you to learn more and I feel so lucky to have been able to survive and have this healing experience and getting my health back together.
